The reinvigoration of the historic Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park has been a multi-year effort to recapture the spirit of this Olmsted Sons-designed garden overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades. Lynden B. Miller and I co-designed the the planting improvements and created a master Framework Plan for the garden’s ongoing maintenance. I continue to work with the Garden’s dedicated gardeners each season to ensure a continual cycle of bloom and interest in the 600-foot-long perennial bed and the accompanying “heather bed” of heaths, heathers, and companion plantings.
